We all crave connection and friendship, especially during special occasions like Galentine’s Day. However, it can be devastating when you find yourself excluded from a gathering by people you thought were your friends. Take a few minutes to check out this blog, as we will explore the emotions that come with being excluded, and most importantly, we will discuss five empowering steps you can take to overcome the pain and move forward with grace. Remember, if you need additional support, working with a life coach can be a transformative experience.
Galentine’s Day was invented by Leslie Knope, a character portrayed by actress Amy Poehler on Parks & Recreation. The sitcom aired from 2009 to 2015, but the show’s legacy lives on in this holiday.
Galentine’s Day is recognized on February 13th —a day for women to celebrate their friendships with their gal pals/ friends.
But what happens when you don’t receive that invitation? Here’s what to do to honor your feelings and emotions and to remember who the fuck you are!
Acknowledge and Validate Your Feelings:
Experiencing exclusion can be incredibly hurtful, and it’s essential to acknowledge and validate your emotions. Allow yourself to feel disappointed or even angry. Give yourself permission to process these emotions without judgment. It’s natural to feel hurt but remember that your worth is not defined by the actions of others.
Reflect on the Situation:
After acknowledging your feelings, take some time to reflect on the Situation. Ask yourself if there might be any misunderstandings or miscommunications that led to your exclusion. It’s possible that there was a genuine oversight or that your friends didn’t realize the impact of their actions. Reflecting on the Situation can help you gain perspective and avoid jumping to conclusions.
Seek Support from Trusted Friends:
During emotional distress, it’s crucial to lean on your support system. Reach out to trusted friends who can provide a listening ear, empathy, and advice. Share your feelings and experiences with them, as they may offer valuable insights and perspectives. True friends will always be there for you, especially during challenging times.
Engage in Self-Care and Self-Compassion:
Dealing with the pain of exclusion requires self-care and self-compassion. Prioritize your well-being by engaging in activities that bring you joy, peace, and comfort. This could include practicing self-care rituals, such as taking a relaxing bath, journaling your thoughts and emotions, meditating, engaging in creative outlets, or treating yourself to something special. Remember, you deserve love and care, especially during challenging moments.
Focus on Personal Growth:
Exclusion can serve as an opportunity for personal growth and self-reflection. Use this experience to evaluate your friendships and consider if they align with your values and aspirations. Invest in personal development by exploring new interests, hobbies, or learning opportunities. Embrace this as a chance to evolve into a stronger, more authentic version of yourself. If you find it challenging to navigate this journey alone, working with a compassionate life coach can provide invaluable guidance, support, and a safe space to process your emotions and develop strategies for moving forward.
Remember, self-love is the best love all year long! Invitation or not, you’re STILL THAT GIRL!
